Before GPS revolutionized just about everything, most of us old-timey pilot types used either dead reckoning or pilotage. Or a combination of the two. While the two techniques overlap in some areas, at their core they approach cross-country flights in totally different ways.

In its purest form, dead reckoning, short for deduced reckoning, involves picking a compass heading and holding it until you reach the next waypoint, while using elapsed time to calculate your position. If you’re lucky, you have some interim information that allows you to adjust your compass heading to correct for wind; sailors used a rock on a rope to gauge drift, but we can call flight service and get the winds aloft along our route. Even without the corrections, however, by holding the compass heading, you’ll come out somewhere in the general neighborhood of where you want to be. If there are no major wind changes and the leg isn’t too long, you may even hit it on the nose.

If you monitor your progress across the ground below, and don’t keep your nose pressed to the GPS screen, you’re actually navigating with a combination of dead reckoning and pilotage. Here, ground references help to verify the accuracy of your dead reckoning.

For the first time in MSFS you will be challenged to fly like many pioneers in aviation navigated their flights. Once you try it, you will always go back for more. Fun from start to finish–guaranteed!

Detailed route waypoints: distance and direction to next waypoint, exact photos of waypoints as seen in Bing or Google Maps
Information on waypoints as needed; airports on the way, rivers, highways and other reference points

 Orinoco River Bush Trip MSFS
$14.00
Description
The Orinoco is one of the longest rivers in South America at 1497.5 miles (2410 kilometers) and one of the largest river systems in the world. Its vast drainage basin, sometimes called the Orinoquia (especially in Colombia) covers over 340,000 square miles (880,000 square kilometers), 76.3 percent of which is in Venezuela with the remainder in Colombia and Brazil. The name Orinoco means “a place to paddle” in the language of the Warao, an indigenous people inhabiting eastern Venezuela and western Guyana. The term Warao translates as “the boat people”, styling after the Warao’s lifelong and intimate connection to water.

Real VFR with 6 Abandoned Airfields for MSFS
12.00
Flying VFR in many parts of the world is not as easy as it sounds. Sure you get to see beautiful sights but with low clouds and powerful thunderstorms around you or fog at your destination it can be a challenging experience.

Real VFR will take you to an area of Bolivia that for many years has depended on aviation for its imports and exports. Today there are many “forgotten airfields” all over this large Department. Many of them bought by ranchers and some just forgotten for good! No ICAO designation for these and not easily found on maps.

Real VFR must be flown by pilots who rely on their skills for navigating by following their compass and being careful in computing time of flight. If these skill are not available to the pilot as well as reading the weather most probably he will not find his destination. All the flights take you to an abandoned airfield with new scenery where you will be taking some kind of help or investigating with police mystery airplanes left there by their pilots.

Features

At least six abandoned airfields with new scenery, as well as 23 airfields in the Beni Department of Bolivia
At least 20 flights (pilots with navigation knowledge may opt to change the given routes!)
Grass, dirt and asphalt airstrips
Optimized for MSFS 2020
Free new “Aero Selva” livery
Able to check real weather at locations and set weather accordingly for a more real flight
Complete documentation with details, necessary formula for computing “Time of Flight” needed to find the abandoned airfields, and specific routes for the flights

FLY OVER THE NAPO RIVER

Welcome to another Episode of our “Extreme Bush Series”. Selva Airlines is once again looking to hire a new pilot. Not a simple one! But one that has the needed experience to fly in all kinds of weather and knows what it means to fly over deep jungles.

You have qualified and chief pilot Sam Regus has given you a test flight, all by yourself, to Putamayo deep in the Colombian jungle. You will take the brand new Cessna 208 with cargo and stop at several small airfields in tiny villages along the way. If you make it, you get a permanent contract for six months.

Yes, the plane is ready and as always in this time of the year it is beginning to rain…Have a nice and safe flight old boy!

Take off from Iquitos, Peru and fly along the Amazon, Napo and tributaries rivers, stop at: Maza, Vidal, Napo, Rio Curaray, Colochon, Vico, Nuevo Rocafuerte, La Mojarra, Puchi, Zuchiles and finally Putamayo; Pacaya is optional and is not on your map
Grass, dirt and asphalt airstrips
Optimized for MSFS 2020
Fly the queen: Cessna 208
Complete documentation with detailed maps, and specific routes for each flight

<span style="><span style=" open=" "="">Panama's Caribbean Coast

A REAL FLIGHT ADVENTURE LIKE THE OLD COMIC BOOKS

alt

Welcome pilots–Central America is a region of the Americas. It is bordered by Mexico to the north, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south. Central America consists of seven countries: El Salvador, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. The combined population is estimated at 44.53 million (2016).

Central America is a part of the Mesoamerican biodiversity hotspot, which extends from northern Guatemala to central Panama. Due to the presence of several active geologic faults and the Central America Volcanic Arc, there is a great deal of seismic activity in the region, such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, which has resulted in death, injury and property damage.

This “Bush Trip” covers around 1249 NM of the Atlantic or Caribbean Ocean shores of five countries, giving you many hours of flying over these coasts. We encourage you to “customize” the trip by diverting to other airfields along the way as well as fly over towns and cities near by. Our “Little Pilots” will be giving you information about the many places you will be going to.

As a bonus, you will find the complete flight plan which you can alternatively fly as a mission which is somewhat more difficult.

Features

Fly in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama
14 stops in grass, dirt and paved runways in cities, towns, villages and in the middle of jungles
Optimized for MSFS 2020
Detailed route indicated along the flights
Flights can be followed in several freeware moving maps
Bonus…RCS/mission option
Old type knee board for the trip or mission

Central America is not new to aviation. The first flight in Guatemala occured on March 24, 1912. The first aviation academy was founded in 1914. So both commercial and military aviation have been growing since.

TACA Airlines was found in 1931 as a freight and passenger airline operating a single engine Stinson. It is considered the oldest Central American Airline and by 1954 was flying to all countries in the area as well the USA.

Today there are many "Local as well as International" Airlines in Central America bringing supplies to local and international airports as well as passengers.

You will be flying in all Central American countries flying to both large Internatinal Airports as well as very small airfields wedge within the mountains of this wonderful region.

IIn the Brazilian state of Amazonas almost a million people live in dozens of roadless cities of 3,000 to 70,000 residents. These settlements are wholly reliant on rivers and Aviation.

As an extreme example, take Ipixuna, one of the most remote towns in Brazil. Located on a major Amazonian tributary, Ipixuna is an incredible 2,820km by boat from the state capital, Manaus. During the dry season barges transporting fuels and non-perishable foods from Manaus can take more than a month to arrive.

Aviation is indeed a lifesaver in many ways and an Extreme Necessity.

You will be flying to Eight locations which need airplanes for their supplies and a safe way to transport people around the very dangerous rivers and jungle on Amazonia!
